Taylor & Francis, Oxford UP OA deals: quotas reached in November

The Universities of The Netherlands (UNL) has agreements with major publishers Taylor & Francis and Oxford University Press, allowing Dutch corresponding authors to publish a predefined number of articles open access without additional article processing charges (APC). Under the Taylor & Francis agreement, Dutch corresponding authors can publish up to 1,451 open access articles per year without APC charges.Under the Oxford University Press agreement, Dutch corresponding authors are allowed to publish a maximum number of open access publications per year without APC charges: 733 articles in 2024, 707 in 2025 and 680 in 2026.ConsequencesThe 2024 quota for both publishers are expected to be reached in the third week of November. This means that from that moment the deal will be suspended and UG/UMCG articles will no longer be eligible for the usual 100% discount on the open access fee.Dutch corresponding authors will be able to use the new allocation of OA fee waivers as of 1 January 2025.Please note: If you choose to publish open access, you will have to arrange the APC payment yourself.Alternative routesDuring the suspension of the deal, authors can choose to publish closed access. Alternative routes to make your article open access may be the Taverne Amendment route or the Rights Retention Strategy. Springer Nature OA deal: quota reached mid-October

According to the agreement between Springer Nature and the Universities of The Netherlands (UNL), Dutch corresponding authors are allowed to publish up to 2,067 open access articles per year without additional article processing charges (APC).ConsequencesThe national annual quota for 2024 is expected to be reached in mid-October. This means that from that moment the deal will be suspended and UG/UMCG articles will no longer be eligible for the usual 100% discount on the open access fee.Dutch corresponding authors will be able to use the new allocation of OA fee waivers as of 1 January 2025.Please note: If you choose to publish open access, you will have to arrange the APC payment yourself.Alternative routesDuring the suspension of the deal, authors can choose to publish closed access. According to the agreement between publisher Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LLW) and the Universities of The Netherlands (UNL), Dutch corresponding authors are allowed to publish a maximum number of open access publications per year without additional article processing charges (APC): 270 articles in 2024, 273 in 2025 and 276 in 2026.ConsequencesThe national annual quota for 2024 is expected to be reached the 3rd week of October. This means that from that moment the deal will be suspended and UG/UMCG articles will no longer be eligible for the usual 100% discount on the open access fee.Dutch corresponding authors will be able to use the new allocation of OA fee waivers as of 1 January 2025.Alternative routesPlease note: During the suspension of the deal authors can choose to publish closed access.
