UG/UMCG open access policy
Open access provides free, immediate, and permanent access to academic publications. By publishing your research with an open license, you allow readers to freely access, share, and reuse the material.
The University of Groningen (UG) and the University Medical Center (UMCG) prioritize open access publishing. They aim to promote it within the academic community and make it accessible across all disciplines. To support this goal, the University Board has introduced an Open Access Policy in 2024.
This policy does not impose new requirements on UG and UMCG authors. Instead, it clarifies the available publishing options and formalizes existing practices.
Routes to make your article open access available
The policy document outlines various ways to publish academic journal articles, book chapters, and books as open access. It includes UG's rules for archiving articles in Pure and features a decision tree to guide UG and UMCG authors through the open access options.
