SmartCat sign-in for staff and students RUG

If you just want to do a search in SmartCat it is not necessary to sign in with a personal accountbut if you want to request items, create personal lists or see an overview of your loans, requests and fines you do need to sign in.
 
On the top right of the screen click 'sign in'
Select Log-in for UG to sign in with your P- or S-number:
 
 
 

Proxy account hospitality agreement (a.o. SPO)

If you have received a proxy-account from the University, you can use this account to access the digital collections of the University Library.

Do not use the proxy-account to log-in to SmartCat.

When you click on a link to a database or a publication that requires authentication (either in SmartCat or on the library website) you will be redirected to a login screen. Select 'Log-in for other users' and enter the username and password of your proxy-account to gain access to the resource.

 

 

A SmartCat account for other users

If you just want to do a search in SmartCat it is not necessary to sign in with a personal account, but if you want to request items, create personal lists or see an overview of your loans, requests and fines you do need to sign in with a personal account.

You can set up a personal account by clicking on 'sign in' at the top of the screen. Then choose Log-in for other users.

Click set/reset password at the bottom of the log-in screen. This will open a new screen where you can enter your username (which is the 04... number on your card) and click on the Request new password button.

You will receive an email with a link which enables you to set up your new SmartCat password.

From then on you can sign in each time you start a new SmartCat session. You only have to do this once during a session. You don't have to enter your details again to request a book or to look at your account.

 

My account

In SmartCat you can see an overview of your account. When logged in, select my account from the dropdown menu under your name.

In 'My account' you can see the items you have on loan (checkouts), your requests (including ILL requests) and fees.

Renewal

Your loans will be renewed automatically (12 times if you are a student, 24 times for faculty members). When a loan cannot be renewed after 12/24 times or because of a reservation, you will receive an email notification. If you do not return the item you will be fined.

Although loans are renewed automatically it is possible to renew loans yourself in 'my account'. This can be convenient before a (short) trip: you can prevent expiration of your loans during your absence.
