EndNote on a Mac

The way that EndNote works on a Mac is for the biggest part the same as on a Windows machine, but there are two notable differences that will be highlighted here:

  1. Starting up EndNote for the first time and creating a library
    • On a Windows machine you get a screen to create a new library, this screen does not automatically show up on a Mac
  2. Manually importing references
    • For every import you need to set the "Import option", on a Windows machine this option is immediatley visible, on a Mac this is hidden behind a "Show options" button.

1) Starting EndNote for the first time

When starting EndNote for the first time on a Mac it appears that nothing is happening. To create your first library, go to the 'EndNote 20' bar in the op of your screen, click on File and use New. The next time you start EndNote, your previously made library will be opened.

2) Manually importing references

When manually importing references [ File > Import ] you will have to select a file to import. It is then important to click the Show Options button to get more import settings. "Import Option" is very important because you have to  tell EndNote what kind of file you are trying to import. If the wrong "import option" is used, the import will fail.
