Publish Open Access - the agreements with publishers: Elsevier

Everything you always wanted to know about open access

What are the main outlines of the agreement with Elsevier?

No author's fee for a number of Elsevier's journals

Elsevier agreed to make it possible to publish open access articles in a selection of their journals.
The author's fees have been bought off by the Dutch universities. For the years 2016 (from January 1), 2017 and 2018, these fees will be covered as part of the Big Deal, provided that publication is in one of the selected journals.

Which journals are covered by this deal?

Workflow

Steps in the workflow when publishing open access in Elsevier journals part of the deal (100% discount):

  • funding: researcher of a Dutch university (VSNU) or University of Groningen
  • next, select: Gold open Access
  • prefered licence: CC-BY 4.0

What about the journals that aren't covered?

What if a journal is not on the list, but you still want to publish open access? There are two options:

  • publish open access, but if the journal is not covered by a deal, APCs need to be paid.
  • upload the final author version of your article to our repository PURE (Green Open Access)
